Yup. Totally true. During a vacation in Mexico in the eighties, Marilyn visited the ruins of Chichen Itza. Today, visitors are no longer allowed to climb even the outer steps of the huge pyramid known as El Castillo due to the wear and tear from so many people climbing them; but back then you were not only allowed to climb the outer steps, you were even allowed to climb the inner steps. Marilyn did both. Reaching the top of the inner steps was a bit disconcerting, however. There were still bloodstains on the altar from human sacrifices that had been conducted there so many years earlier. The stone dish where human hearts had been placed in offering held deep, indelible stains.
